Wow! A whole month of photos now. I feel so good that I'm sticking with it. I hope I have the will power to keep at it for another 11 months.

Blah! I'm playing with the flash again. I was in a hurry to get a shot for today, and didn't really have a plan. I have this chest that my mother gave me. I call it my treasure chest because I store old floppies (yes floppies!!) from my first digital camera in there, along with various snapshots that other people have given me.

I love the chest and the colors, but I didn't have a plan when I started shooting, so I feel like I didn't capture anything other than a pretty little chest.

Oh well, maybe tomorrow I will be more inspired. Maybe I'll try to persuade Maximus to sit by the box for a portrait. lol

This is our youngest son's Christmas present. It was very late arriving due to being on back order. It finally arrived a couple weeks ago.

We had bright sunshine today, so I took advantage of the morning light in the dining room, a chair for propping up the guitar, and my tripod for steady shots. For once, I didn't wait until later in the day to get my daily photo.

This is a beautiful guitar, I should post a full photo of it.

1/28/09 retake

I reshot this today with ISO 200, so there is less noise. It may not be noticeable here on my blog, but it's very noticeable on the full size image.

4th shot - flash pointing straight up

3rd shot - flash angled even more towards ceiling

2nd shot - flash angled slightly more towards the ceiling

1st shot - flash w/diffuser, straight on

I'm playing with the flash again. First shot is just plain yucky, and over exposed because the flash was pointed directly at the bowl of apples. Finally with the 4th shot, I think I got what I wanted. I was shooting in Manual and discovered that I could set the shutter speed where I want and the flash will compensate.

Scott Kelby is soooo right - the on board camera flashes are junk. LOL I bought his Digital Photography Book boxed set and am really enjoying reading them and hopefully some of what I'm reading will stick in my brain.

Don't you love it when you're pleasantly surprised? I took one shot of my map, and then decided to put my external flash, which I rarely use, on the camera. I grabbed two more shots and this was the last one.

Looking at them in the camera I thought they were blah and no good, but once I loaded them into Lightroom2, I realized they weren't so bad after all, and maybe, actually, pretty good. :)

Lesson learned: play with the flash more often and learn how it can improve my photos.

The map is for places where I have sent my camera straps. Some of the smaller north eastern states, and a few of the larger cities like Los Angeles, I have to use the little white flags and write the number on them. :)

Today, I gathered a load of firewood to put on the front porch, so I took the camera with me when I went out to the firewood shed.

We've had misty rain all day today, so it's very gray here today and I was trying to capture that. This is the trail behind our house that goes to the back of our property.

As cold as it's been here, I was surprised to notice these leaves a few days ago. We had beautiful weather today and a high of 70 degrees, (why isn't the degree symbol on the keyboard???), so I decided to go out and try to capture these tiny rose leaves that are beginning to come out. This is a wild rose bush, so I guess it's also very hardy. Well, it has to be hardy to be in my yard - I do NOT have a green thumb.

I know, I know, I'm shameless with cat shots, but tonight I was playing around with something I've read about but never tried - zooming while snapping the shot. There may be a technical name for the technique but I've never heard of it. These shots sort of make me dizzy and one that I didn't post just looked like he had some really bad static going on. lol It was fun though, and actually worked better that I though it would.

(You'll need to click to see the larger view to really see the effect.)

I think I see a new external hard drive in my near future. All of these daily photos are eating up lots of storage space.

I thought I would post two photos today - a contrast between cold and hot. I took the first photo early this morning, before the heavy frost melted, and the second photo is the nice glowing fire tonight.

I just love this guy! He's the "bestest" kitty cat in the world. I think he was having a bad "eyebrow" day. heehee

It's chilly tonight, so I'm drinking hot chocolate and working on an embroidery project.

Today, I fully intended to get an outdoor shot. We had beautiful sunshine here today, but I got so busy with other things, I forgot about my camera. So...you get another indoor shot and a kitty as a bonus. ;) (Can you tell I love kitties???)

Maximus (bottom) and Minoux (top) - just a quick snapshot. They are patiently waiting for their snacks. I have to say the magic word (chicken) to make Minoux look at me. lol

We went on a little road trip today. This is the Greater New Orleans Bridge that crosses the Mississippi River. I took this with my Canon Powershot SD800IS - looking through the windshield.

More pixel peeping. I think this week I'm learning to be more cautious of my pixels and the need to get sharper photos. The second photo is a closer crop of the first photo.

I also see that my machine needs cleaning. lol

I'm not exactly happy with this one, but I'm not sure what it needs.

My first try at a baby portrait. I used the "aged photo" preset in LR2, a WOW preset vignette, and Noiseware.

Both our sons play guitar, so there's always one lying around. We were discussing "pixel-peeping" on the list, and I'm proud to say I was proud of my pixels on this one. LOL

This was a stretch for me. It's raining today, so I was limited on choices...I think. Anyway, I decided to play around with a hamburger bun and this is what I got. I thought the blue plate was a nice contrast.

Today, you get kitty pics. This is my Minoux (mee noo). He looks sort of grumpy but he isn't. He just has this intense expression. He is 1/2 Ragdoll. I was trying to catch a shot of his eyes, which have 3 rings of different shades of blue - quite unusual.

You also get a bonus shot today. You've met Maximus before. He LOVES the camera. I was shooting Minoux and looked over and saw Maximus, looking pretty and begging for me to take his picture.

These are not what I planned for today, but I'm quite pleased with them.

Yes, it's an azalea, and yes it's blooming today. Must be the crazy weather we are

This is Maximus Catticus - my Ragdoll cat - you'll be seeing a lot of him. He thinks the new love seat and blanket are his. I think he's been watching tv too.
