I don't get a lot of time for pleasure shooting lately, but I made time yesterday. Snow in south Mississippi is pretty rare, so I had to get some shots. I used Matt's Soft Focus 2 preset for Lightroom on the first photo.

Am I feeling inspired? Maybe. I had to make myself pick up the camera and go outside this evening. I tried to capture some blue jays that are drinking the water that is dripping out of our AC, but they wouldn't cooperate.

I ended up with these shots of the caladiums and elephant ears. I have to admit, I'm pleased with what I got.

Our crepe myrtles are blooming. They aren't known for their sweet smell, or at least I've never read much that mentioned it, but if you get close enough, they smell very sweet and good.

I kind of like the soft processing in the first one. The second one is the same shot with different processing.

6/30/09 - I'm falling behind

I've fallen behind on my 365 project. It's been very, very hot and dry here, so I'm going to blame my lack of enthusiasm for getting a photo each day to the heat. It seems to suck everything out of a person.

It's still hot and dry, but today, Minoux seemed to be encouraging me to take a shot, so here he is in all his sleepy fuzzy glory.

Here's hoping I can get back on track with creative shots. I did take a bunch of camera strap shots during the days I missed, but I didn't think you wanted to see all those.

Today, I had to privilege of seeing two fox cubs in our backyard. One left quickly, but the other stayed around long enough for me to get the camera and grab a few shots. These aren't great shots, and are cropped, but I consider them very lucky shots. It's very rare to see fox cubs.

When we were little, we called them little parachutes when we blew them off the stem. It was so much fun, and there never seemed to be enough of them around. Now I have a whole field full of them, and you know, I haven't blown even one this year. Guess I'll add them to my "to do" list.

Today, I didn't get around to getting a new photo, so I'm posting a photo from April 2008. I used OptikVerve's Virtual Photographer, a plugin for Photoshop Elements. I used B&W filters called "spooky" and "dramatic." I think the effects looks pretty cool on this photo. Looking at them today, I realize I should have cropped some of the bottom off.

Last night we had thunderstorms and 4 inches of rain in a couple of hours. Today it was pretty, sunny, and breezy, and this afternoon the thunderstorms are building again. I love watching the sky get dark and feel the breeze turn cooler, but not so much the lightning.

Have I mentioned how much I love the Canon 24-105 lens? I hadn't taken it out in the field for flower shots this spring, so I went out late this afternoon. I only took a few, but I'm so pleased with them. The last photo is soft, but I still like it.

It was fairly breezy out, so I was surprised when I downloaded the photos and got better shots than expected.
